Soooo, I was so tired last night (coming in at 1 o’clock I could not be guest blogger and when I woke up this morning all I could was have my coffee and get out to work. Why was I so tired you ask? I spent three hours rockin’ the house with my favorite 60 year old. Though last night’s opening show at Giant’s stadium was Bruce’s requiem mass for the stadium I had a different take on the show. With Bruce belting out NO Retreat, no Surrender I realized how significant that song was. At 60 this guy was going to continue to share himself and his soul with the world. At a time of life when a lot of us boomers are setting back and starting to surrender, Bruce pours it out and refuses to surrender. The longer he played the stronger he got. Imagine my thrill when while playing “Dancin’ in the Dark”.Springsteen pulled a white haired, overweight, 50 something woman up on stage to dance with him!! Score one for those of us who are begining to feel on occasion a little invisible. My life long friend Rosemary spent the night on our feet and feeling like we were 15 again( what a great feeling)Thanks Bruce!
Remember that post a few days ago when I warned of missing a show that turns out to be epic and hating ones self forever for missing it?
The Hold Steady did a two-night stint at the Williamsburg Music Hall earlier this week. I’m sure the shows were great (even though I’m still disappointed with them for the lackluster Irving Plaza and Towson Theater shows I saw a couple of months ago) but I opted out of this current northeast run. (The first string of shows I’ve missed since 2007).
ANYWAY- you know that feeling you have after a show that absolutely moves you has just ended and you don’t want the party to end? Well, it looks like around 200 people at the Williamsburg show had some sort of insane collective energy that carried over into what can best be described as “Post Show Rosie Rock Out”.
The house lights were up. Most of the crowd had vacated. And the sound guy pressed “play” on a live version of Springsteen’s “Rosalita”….and all hell broke loose.
Brendan (Obviate Media) captured most of the CRAZY dance party and posted it to his tour video blog…watch the whole thing and see if you catch the cameo’s by Stead-Heads Bible Salesman (can’t miss him), Lawyer Chris (can’t miss him either), Hard Corey…oh, and Rob Sheffield and Craig Finn show up in there as well…
That’s what she said.
