The Jasper Coltrain Podcast

Here’s the podcast of the interview I did on Jasper Coltrain’s show.

Enjoy.

Who are the people in your neighborhood?

While out hanging Dice posters the other night, 31 Flavors and I spotted a scattering of little, rectangular green handbills stapled to telephone poles and hung on the door at Nonna’s announcing a meeting for a new Midtown Community group which is forming to serve the Engletown Neighborhood.

[edit: It was pointed out to me that there are varying spellings of the name - Wikipedia has it spelledĀ  as Engletown while the locals seem to prefer Engleton

Engletown? Where the hell is Engletown? You may be asking right about now.

I wondered that too and was educated at tonights meeting- Engletown is the area between Reily and Kelker from Second to Third which sort of falls on the outskirt-ish reaches of Midtown and just on the other side of the "tracks" of Kelker leading into Olde Uptown.

The meeting agenda was relatively loose; more of a roundtable discussion than a lecture was moderated by hosts Tara and Brandy who co-chaired the group of about twenty Engletown residents. (Tara is the Tara half of the other Tara and Caleb- for those of you in the Midtown-know.)

With the rapid development of the HACC Midtown Campus in addition to the desire to band together a community and local residents concern about increasing crime and more and more blighted houses within the confines of Engletown, the community gathering could not have happened at a more opportune time and was, in my opinion, a resounding success.

Attendees from all sectors were in attendance and freely shared ideas, thoughts and concerns for their neighborhood.

More of a community organization than strictly a crime watch group, the Engletown Community Project appears to have all of the key-elements and players in place to become a valid, positive, enriching group which will certainly improve the overall quality of life within the sector of Midtown it encapsulates.

An email list has been established and will be used to communicate initial progress, initiatives, committees and goals for the group. Send an email to engletoncommunity [at] yahoo [dot] com to join the email list.

A Website will be launched soon which will likely act as something of a hub for all information pertaining to the Engletown Community Project.

So there you have it, kids. Good people getting together to share great ideas and important information.

Nights like tonight make me proud to live in this city.

Twonites Tweetup

Do you know what today is?

It’s Tweetup at The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company.

That’s right, folks. If you write a blog, use Twitter, are a proponent of social networking or are just sort of hoping to meet some like-minded technology/media/progressive thinkers, then this is your place.

(Man, did THAT sentence sound like a used car sales ad?)

Seriously though- the Blogger Meeting/Tweetups have been growing to never-expected proportions. I’m pretty sure last month there were around twenty five different URL’s represented. Even @sarabozich has become a regular.

But we’re still waiting to see @yebot, @shortstack, @CallmeSB, @Patriotnews and a few others.

What: Tweetup
Where: The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company (the deck if it’s nice enough)
When: 7P-??? Thursday September 18
Why: Because we like you.

(For the record- this will be the first Tweetup that I won’t be able to attend- but I’ll be Tweeting my Twip the whole time- and will be sure to keep up with you. That’s the beauty of this social networking thing, right?)

(Oh, by the way- have you seen the Twitter Whore?)

A Teaser Of Sorts (The Jersey Mike Fall Line Coming Soon)

So…if you haven’t noticed, allow me to point out to you all that nowhere on this site will you find a paid advertisement from any company or entity.

Therefore, what I do here is completely funded from the goodness of my own heart.

But because of the increased traffic on this site, I’ve come to a decision that I’ll need to figure out some way to earn a few bucks to at least cover costs- and maybe make a couple dollars at the same time.

That said- I’ve teased this before, but have decided it’s high-time for dis guy to get into the Tee Shirt business.

I’m not exactly sure of the frequency that I’ll offer new designs and such- and you’ll certainly see some limited edition-short run designs come election season (oh, is that another hint?) but here, for the first time anywhere, is the very first prototype of the very first offering of the Jersey Mike Clothing Line.

I’ll be (finally) upgrading to WP 2.0 in the next week or so; along with making some much needed and long-overdue upgrades to my site. And with those changes will be a store. My first stab at e-commerce.

I think we’re gonna have some fun with this- so for now, dig on my first idea- and feel free to let me know if you love it or hate it. (Trust me, be honest- you cannot offend me)

Hugs and kisses,

Jersey

Plugging A Fellow Blogger

Have you read @halushki’s blog yet?

I met the Mom-Blogger at last week’s Tweetup. Was sort of confused by the name (and I still don’t know the meaning of it- Halushki) but we exchanged pleasantries.

But then I came home and caught up on the required reading of meeting new bloggers and Twitterers from the area.

And the first piece I read had me absolutely enraptured. I emailed it around to a few people and that was that.

But TODAY, my friends, I plopped Halushki into my Google Reader and caught up on some of her most recent posts-

And, you may not find this as funny as I did, but her post- cryptically titled Creek Glass is absolutely hilarious.

So, in the name of sharing information and turning readers of this site on to interesting and enlightening bits of information they may have otherwise never have seen, I offer you the following- This Link is a link to one of the funniest laugh-out-loud blog posts I’ve read in quite some time.

It starts off nostalgic and wishy-washy, but trust me- about halfway through, it takes a comical turn that any parent can certainly enjoy.

So, in case you missed it- that link is right here and you should go read it.

(If you had the time to read this far on this site, I’m certain you’ve got an extra three and a half minutes in your day to read Halushki.)

What the hell are you still doing here? Go!
