Sign Language for Papenfuse
At 9:07AM this morning, I received three odd emails.
They were links to a photo-sharing site called TinyPic.com.
Within the email were only links to three photos.
Intrigued, I clicked the links and found these: three photos (all similar to the one below) of a custom made sign mocking city-council-candidate Eric Papenfuse. The signs read “Thanks Eric Papen “Foolish” Nice Work – Brought to you by Citizens To Stamp Out Small Thinking and Contrarian Politics”
Odd- but not surprisingly- the emails were anonymous. But whoever sent them obviously wanted me to see them.
Just yesterday, Tuesday May 10, 2009, the remaining Capital Blue Cross exercise signs were removed by The City. And sometime between last night and this morning, this one appeared. (Notice the custom cut and near-perfectly matched colors of the text. )
I called Roxbury and Papenfuse and we met at the sign location.
Eric, obviously, was bothered by the appearance of the sign.
But something to consider is just how much effort went into placing this sign in the park. The sign it self probably cost around a hundred dollars. The bolts used to hang the sign are brand new- purchased solely to hang this sign. And holes were precisely cut into the sign to line up with the existing bolt-holes on the CBC sign-posts.
And while we’re on the subject of “signs”, this is obviously a “sign” that Eric is doing something right. For if he was SO far off base with the issues he’s been pressing, he’d be shrugged off and ignored by the “powers that be”.
Also of note: when we arrived at Front and Maclay, there was a city maintenance crew on the scene raking the ground around the sign and exercise gear close by.
