More Love On The PennLive Forums

Oh how I love anonymity.

The ones who spew the most venomous hate are the same people who haven’t the guts to speak their mind and say the things they type in a person to person environment.

You see, everything I type within this blog, I reiterate in person.

And considering how small of a town this is (and also factoring in that this site recieves nearly ten thousand unique visits monthly), I’m an easy guy to track down.

And if you disagree with what I say, that’s fine. I commend you. I’ve never implied that anything contained within this site is anything more than my opinion placed in a succession of ones and zeros on the internet.

And hey, if I’m gonna dish it out, I better be able to take it, right?

I’m sure that John Luciew, Steve Reed, Steve Ketterer, Joe Solomon, Vera White, Clare Jones and maybe (maybe) Brad K would love nothing less than to start an anti-Jersey Mike blog.

But that’s the point, I guess.

I’m not here to make friends.

And at the same time, I’m not here to make enemies, either.

I’m merely wrtiting about what I see and my take on things.

But once again, the ugly head of the PennLive forums has reared it’s ugly head.

A discussion about the quality of the American Music Fest has become a name calling sesssion- with yours truly on the recieving end.

But I sort of welcome it, I guess.

My good friend Ralph Barba once told me “Mikey, the only time you need to worry is when they stop talking.”

And I guess they’re still talking-

I’d like to know why JerseyMikePA can piss and moan about another’s efforts falling short of his expectations. And in the same rant not give any insight as to how to make it better, other then to promote his own self interest and nobody is able to see it for what it is. (KESSEK)
jerseymike is a hypocritical, do-nothing, loser with way too much free time. (CANMan)

We need someone that points out ALL of the positives around here instead of the constant “HARRIS-BASHING”! (nzeigl)

I think he needs to choose his battles a little better and then maybe more people wouldn’t be so sick of his constant negativity. (LeonJackson)

I hope jerseymike has to pay the amusement tax every time he posts a new blog. His posts are truly some of the best entertainment on the web. Whenever I need a good laugh, I check out his whinny blog. It’s always a hoot–almost as funny as the Central PA Gazelle. LONG LIVE THE AMUSEMENT TAX! (hawk003)

    I know how you feel.
When I worked for the Press And Journal (Middletown), the paper was bashed quite a bit on PennLive and even I was in our paper.
While I became upset and enraged my publisher said “Well at least they are reading the paper.”
Which is a good point I guess. At least the people are listening to what you say.
But I agree the anoyminity of PennLive and the “Sound Off” feature the P&J has just sucks.

Funny, people really don’t know you…negative?
Hey, take your own advise sucka “And hey, if I’m gonna dish it out, I better be able to take it, right?”…RIGHT!

You were right on about American MusicFest.

    The truth always beats popularity.

    Dude,

How the hell are you getting 10,000 uniques? There is a case of Dodd Family Legacy Franken-stout in it for you to help me get up to 5000.

    Namaste.

You say “I’m merely writing about what I see and my take on things.”

How is my comment that you cite above “the PennLive forums rear[ing] it’s ugly head”? Also, how is my comment part of a “a name calling sesssion”?

I didn’t call you any names. I, too, was merely writing about what I see and my take on things. And what I see from you on that forum is a lot of negativity, unless it is about a show that you are promoting (which is part of my quote you didn’t include).

So in the future, should you choose to select and edit one of my quotes for your little blog and cite it as an example of “name calling” please make sure that you are practicing what you preach.

Should you wish for me to do a statistical analysis of topics you’ve started on Pennlive with a positive tone (and not directly related to your income) versus ones started with a negative tone, I’d be happy to do it sometime…but we all know that the negative toned posts way outweigh the positive ones.

I’m not, and wasn’t in my quote above in your little blog entry, saying that’s right or wrong, I too, was “merely wrtiting about what I see and my take on things”.

    Leon-

    Thanks for checking in.

Is Leon Jackson your birth name?

If so, I was only able to find two Leon Jackson’s in Harrisburg in a Google search.

One of them is what looks to be a 19 year old football player.

And the other was wanted for skipping out on parole-

    Which one are you?

You see, Leon, it’s not that I dislike Harrisburg. Quite the opposite is true, actually.

I absolutely LOVE this city. I love the people. I love the food. I love the landscape. I love the architecture. I love the history. I love the proximity we have to other cities and landscapes. I love the affordability of this city. I love the potential Harrisburg possesses to be a top-notch and attractive place to live.

What I do not care for, however, is the way this place is run.

It’s crystal clear that members of the current administration- some of the people who call the shots about what happens here- are inept, shady, untrustworthy and incapable of effectively managing and running a capital city of less than fifty thousand.

If I come off as negative, it’s not because I’m a negative guy.

It’s just that I believe that this city and it’s residents are capable of SO MUCH MORE.

We all need to pull together, however, and make the necessary changes.

(Oh, by the way- this “little” blog- and all of the others like it- have far more reach than you may like to believe)

I’ll always defend forums, PL’s and others, in a freedom-of-speech way. However, I’m surprised at what anonymity does to people, how it strips so many of civility. But what surprises me most, on the local level to the national level, is that anyone who criticizes something, from a street festival to the War in Iraq, “becomes” the problem. Huh? Since when is “following our leaders like lemings” an American value?

  8. jerseym says:

    Right on, Janet.

  9. Phil says:

Blind faith is the new black.

    namaste.

My ONLY question was why you believe I was name calling? You didn’t answer my question. I don’t see it. I actually agree with a lot of things you say, but I can also see why people would turn you off because there are a lot of negative posts. I was offering constructive criticism. I just don’t see why you chose to quote my as a example of the point you are/were trying to prove.

    Here’s my FULL quote:

“The only times that JerseyMike ever has anything positive to say is when he is promoting a band, albeit he does bring good bands here.

I think he needs to choose his battles a little better and then maybe more people wouldn’t be so sick of his constant negativity.

Sure, our city has it’s problems, but I like it here.”

To answer your question, no, my birth name is not Leon Jackson. Is yours Jersey Mike?

    Ok, I’m done…
