I’ve now heard from two separate sources that the Patriot News is considering pulling up it’s Harrisburg roots and moving to a new location…outside of the city.
This is merely speculation and not a fact by any means- this is simply something I’ve heard from the rumor mill.
My sources tell me that the current Patriot News building on Market Street is in dire need of upgrades and is oozing with asbestos- and the cost of renovations and upgrades would likely supersede the cost of a brand new building- somewhere outside of The City.
What would this mean to the local community?
For starters, a big loss of tax dollars for the city.
Also, I think it would be a major statement from our local paper about where it’s proverbial heart lies.
Stay tuned…

Now would not be the best time in the Patriot’s history to consider leaving the city.
Now there’s an organization, a non-tax exempt organization mind you, that could benefit from some wide open empty land at say, 6th and Reilly streets. JUST SAYING!
Don’t they do all their printing off 81 on the west shore already?
