Lame! Never again, I swore. Then I saw him a year ago in Nashville at the Ryman. He was part of the NDRC Save Our Mountains fundraiser. He did four songs. That was more then enough after an 8 year hiatus for me. Talked with the 34 year old white hat behind me who wanted to get all sentimental about Dave, unfortunately for him our conversation ended short when I asked him jokingly if he was on tour with Dave and laughed when he said just on weekends. I've been to many DMB shows and found the crowd to be pretty straight.. not a lot of fucked up people, mostly everyone is polite and just there to be with Dave and to dance and sing along and hear their favorite songs. I have yet to see a "frat boy" in a "white hat" that owns a jeep at a show.. Plus, why on earth would the people who like a certain band begin to define the band itself? Plus.. never heard people criticizing like, Metallica fans.... but I bet many of them are assholes... But then I tried actually playing his songs on guitar (I'm in an established band) and they are a challenge. I gave DMB as musicians a proper listened and found out that Dave Matthews is a great acoustic guitar player and storyteller. Carter and Boyd do what they do amazingly well. The bassist I'm not so sure of. But for whatever reason the fans are completely a turn-off. If they were less of an annoyance I'd probably be a superfan myself.
