[Understanding that I'm risking getting a boot put on each wheel of my car, I'm going to go ahead and post this anyway]
Over the past several years, we’ve seen what seems to be a new financial fiasco in this city every single month.
What comes to immediate mind is The Incinerator Debacle ($300 Million and counting), The Harrisburg Authority Legal Bill Fiasco ($1 Million and counting), The Wild West Museum Snafu ($25 Million? Does anyone really know?) and quite recently, The Parking Garage Land Swap Flim Flam (not really a loss…yet, but it’s kind of like taking a couple million dollars from your left pocket and placing it directly into your right).
The message boards and blogosphere light up with each new found puddle of filth left behind in the trail of money and power hungry politicos in this town…all on the backs of the citizens…the taxpayers.
Taxpayer monies- over one million dollars (or ten new police officers, a bunch of new police cars, new fire equipment, etcetera) was just spent on an absolutely FRIVOLOUS and UNNECESSARY lawsuit to maintain control of The Harrisburg Authority.
That MILLION DOLLARS was WASTED.
PISSED AWAY.
And our police officers are clunking around in 1994 Caprice Classics that are LESS reliable than my beat up old Saab. (Seriously.)
Over the years, people have uttered the word “impeach” with regards to Mayor Steven Reed.
But we cannot impeach our Mayor. It is not in the rule book.
We MAY, however, recall our Mayor.
Read for yourself- some communities in this great country have begun proceedings with as few as five persons involved- with the majority of the action taken by the President of City Council.
Read on:
Kansas City, MO.- Residents Seek Recall of Mayor
Berkley, CA- Recall Mayor Tom Bates
New Underwood, SD- Recall Mayor Oliff
Spokane, WA- Mayor Recalled Over Sex-Scandal
Wildwood NJ- Mayor Recalled for abuse of power and misleading financial deals.
Does ANY of that sound familiar to any of you?

How can we achieve this in Harrisburg? Sheila Dow-Ford and Lenora Smith, can you provide case law to help the citizens move forward with this? I’m ready and I know I can gather more support amongst Harrisburg’s constituents.
I’m in! Seriously.
Les Ford called for a vote of no-confidence of the superintendent, and, if memory serves me correctly, a termination of his contract for neglect of duty/incompetence.
I agree with this recommendation, that a committee be convened that will explore legal channels for recalling Mayor Reed. I suggest that the committee be a watchdog group initially, that will attend council meetings, talk to folks in the know, establish a dossier of “wrongdoings” and , at the appropriate time, begin the process.
Don’t worry, the mayor’s arrogance is such that he’ll keep screwing up and sticking it to the taxpayers and anyone else who challenges him. All we have to do is wait, and watch.
alright, if you start a petition, i will sign it.
I’m in as well. It will take money to proceed. Does anyone have any to put up? I don’t think we need a watch guard group. The mayor has commited enough egregious acts to be recalled already. Can the mayor be held responsible for other issues commited by the city goverment? (I’m thinking of the parking dictatorship for starters, and general cronyism of the city relationships with developers)
