And justice for all

Good news on the McCormick Island Rave arrests-

District Justice Barbara Pianka dismissed 42 cases in addition to 9 which were heard earlier this month.

A Federal law suit has been filed on behalf of approximately 50 of those individuals, alleging their civil rights were violated when they were strip-searched at Dauphin County Prison. Attorneys also plan a suit against the city …

Your Contribution- Part I

Hi-

Me again.

Yes, I know. It’s been awhile.

But fret not, there shall be plenty to yammer about soon enough.

For now, though- I need your help.

Have you, or someone you know, been a victim of a crime or other unfortunate sequence of events that can be directly (or indirectly) blamed back on a lack of services within our city?

  • For example-
  • Did your car get stuck in the snow somewhere in the city and then caused you to be late for an appointment? Or worse yet- caused damages to your car which required repair?
  • Have you or someone you know been the victim of an crime like a mugging or burglary while out on the town?
  • Have you witnessed blatantly illegal or immoral activity somewhere within the city that goes unpunished?
  • Perhaps your band was in town to play a gig and you got mugged of your payment money while enjoying a warm, summer night outside the venue.
  • Maybe you went to get a pack of smokes at the gas station and were held at gunpoint for no apparent reason.

If so, please email me your story- it doesn’t have to be long. Just the facts, ma’am.

All submissions will remain anonymous.

What will they be used for?

Sort of a highlight reel of examples of ‘taxation without representation’ happening daily in our city.

Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Big ass live music update.

In case you haven’t noticed, I haven’t updated the Roundtable Presents site in quite some time.

Partially, because Roundtable Presents isn’t exactly what it began as- and has been in something of a state of flux for the past several months-

But more so- because my good buddies down at City Hall have been steadfast in folding their arms and holding their proverbial breath when it comes to negotiating with me on the super-duper Amusement Tax Issue.

I’ve been meaning to completely dismantle the site and have it become a main location for information pertaining to my fight with the City to get the tax reformed-

But all things in time-

So for now, I’ve been using this space to promote my shows.

Because ultimately, if the City doesn’t want to encourage Roundtable Presents and other independent promoters, we’ll simply take our business elsewhere.

*Spoiler* Watch this space for some big news before the end of the year about some worthwhile events coming up in YORK- is it a bigger venue? Is it all ages? Is it merely twenty five minutes down I-83?

If you guessed “Yes” to all three of those questions…then you’re right!

But for now, “a guy’s gotta eat”- so come see some music.

Indie at The Abbey has ironed out the kinks and is on a smooth course or rock- have you been to a night yet? Every Wednesday at The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company we, along with 717 Tattoo, WIAB Records and Instrumental Analysis host two nationally touring indie-rock bands. And I can wholeheartedly say that every single band that has played a slot for the past month has been nothing short of absolutely KICK ASS. Two bucks gets you in the door and all of the massive selection of Belgian beers is featured for “$2 off”- I hate to sound cliche, but seriously- come see what you’ve been missing.

Rats! Foiled Again!

Score: 1 for Jersey – and a big fat ZERO for the Harrisburg Parking Ticket Brigade.

Early-ish this morning, I was laying in bed- reluctant to start my day just yet- when I heard the swishing sounds of the street sweepers.

After finally coercing myself out of bed- and realizing that today may actually be a 2nd or 4th Friday- I hurried downstairs and grabbed my keys- realizing that it was, in fact, the second Friday of the month-

As I stepped out of my house- the 1989 Caprice Classic was creeping up the street- distributing those nasty little green envelopes to every errant car.

But not mine- I bolted to my beat up little red Saab- keys flailing in the air in a race of who could get to my car quicker-

And before the meter maids could start punching my license plate number into their machine- I was off like a bat out of hell-

Narrowly averted THAT parking ticket this morning.

Til next time…
