Let’s Dance

I’ve heard Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” more times in random places in the past three days than I’ve heard it in the past three years combined, or so it seems.

When I clicked through a message forum signature to Heidi Vanderslice’s blog and found the most recent post to be a version of the very song that’s been haunting me since Tuesday afternoon, I thought that there must be some sort of cosmic or other worldly force drawing this tune to my attention-

M. Ward does this version and, although the lyrics aren’t hard to decipher in the original- the Ward translation over a gentle, strumming guitar breathes a whole new meaning into a classic that I’ve otherwise scanned over on the antique FM dial as a classic rock radio staple for years-

It’s here. Listen.

Let’s dance put on your red shoes and dance the blues

Let’s dance to the song
they’re playin’ on the radio

Let’s sway
while color lights up your face
Let’s sway
sway through the crowd to an empty space

If you say run, I’ll run with you
If you say hide, we’ll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let’s dance for fear
your grace should fall
Let’s dance for fear tonight is all

Let’s sway you could look into my eyes
Let’s sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight

If you say run, I’ll run with you
If you say hide, we’ll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let’s dance put on your red shoes
and dance the blues

Let’s dance to the song
they’re playin’ on the radio

Let’s sway you could look into my eyes
Let’s sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight

I clicked on your signature on THS message board. :)

    Great find, BTW.

(And there’s no shame in Googling thyself. There are far worse things one could do. Like incessantly checking THS message boards all day like myself)
