Miller to THA- No, no..and no again
Harrisburg City Councilman Dan Miller continues his almost-vigilante questioning, calling out and very publicly challenging Mayor Reed and The Harrisburg Authority-
In a statement issued today, Miller indicated he will be voting against three items on the agenda of tonights public City Council meeting- Bill #19 (increased disposal fees), #23 ($15 million bond issuance for incinerator working capital) and #24 (to guarantee the Covanta contract).
Explaining his research and reasons for his offering of a “nay” vote, Miller says “My greatest concern is the massive debt the city has accumulated. Harrisburg has by far the largest amount of per capita debt of any city in Pennsylvania. Harrisburg’s per capita debt of $9,007 is almost three times that of second place Philadelphia at $3,123. Our gross debt of $441 million is third behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. It is 4.4 times the York City gross debt of $99 million and 6.3 times larger than Lancaster City gross debt of $69 million. I believe it is questionable if the PA DCED (Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development) would even allow Harrisburg to issue this current debt proposal.” (All figures are from the most recent financial data compiled on the PA DCED website.)”
Bravo, Dan.
