Good. Glad to see it on TV. My own personal take is that we’ve enjoyed a very unusual (especially in Harrisburg history) crime-free urban center for several years, and we now have to put “keep downtown safe” up at around the same priority as “open new downtown venues”.
It’s not that we ONLY have to safeguard downtown, or that we have to STOP adding new venues. Rather, this is the worst possible time to shaft the Harrisburg Police Department. I would love to see a funding windfall for the PD — pick up a few dozen additional officers, modernize the vehicles — but I really don’t see that happening given our financial situation.
If the venues got together and funded private security to patrol Second from South to Walnut … that would be interesting. They wouldn’t have the prosecution power of the PD, but they could be a noteworthy crime deterrent.
Yeah- I agree-
But snowballs would have to fly through hell after being thrown by pigs with wings before all of the venue owners downtown work together on anything- let alone ponying up more dough for increased security-
