Furlough, shmerlough-

Hey now.

So the Governor hasn’t approved a state budget as of midnight this morning leaving twenty five thousand state workers with an unpaid day off.

What’s disturbing here is the fact that “non critical and non essential workers” are losing at least one day of work- unpaid, of course- yet a judge in Wilkes Barre managed to keep the CASINOS open?

It shows where the priorities lie- certainly it’s not about the well being of the citizens.

It seems to me that each day we see more and more stupid acts of beurocracy and a limp dick government that cares not about the people which it taxes and governs- but a small government that’s beholden to special interest groups and whoever is paying the most for their time.

And shit rolls downhill, folks. Is it any wonder why our city is in such a financial crisis when the ones at the top can’t get their shit together?

I’m not critical. That’s why I’m at home right now. Personally, I like to free time!

  2. What bothers me more than anything here is the grandstanding going on by the Republicans. I just witnessed a Republican Senator from Allegheny county (whose name eludes me) take the stand to accuse the entire bank of Democratic Senators of “walking out”. Amusingly, she was immediately followed by Senator Bob Mellow (D-Lackawanna). After Senator Mellow’s comments, the president paused to point out that all senators were present and accounted for.

Now, I don’t agree with the last-minute proposals slipped into the budget (why are we paying for Philly’s subways?). But the attempt to capitalize on this for political gain makes me sick.

What disgusts me (besides the fact that the Casinos stayed open yet the State Parks closed) is that Rendell laid the blame for delays on “everyone” instead of taking it on himself. Not only does this go against a leader taking responsibility for his government body but the reason for the delay was ENTIRELY his fault. 7 new taxes in the wake of a $650M surplus??? Whatever he’s smoking, I want some too, maybe then I can come to terms with my ridiculous real estate/school taxes.

And while I’m on Rendell, maybe he should start living in the Governor’s Mansion (saving taxpayers the cost of his speeding police limo to and from Philly many times a month) and focus more on the State of Pennsylvania and less on the state of Philadelphia. If he doesn’t want to live in the Governor’s Mansion I’m sure there are some really needy families in Harrisburg that would love to stay there for awhile…
