A Throwback Bit Of Nostalgia (Belly Fans)
Hanging with Josh and Manda Acorns last night, we started talking about some of our favorite records and bands that we fall back on- you know- the record or band that you can listen to at almost ANY time- and it sends you back to the comforting land of tomato soup and grilled cheese-
Belly was one of my favorite bands of the nineties- my friends and I saw many a NYC show of this post-Throwing Muses/Breeders project that was doomed by the sophomore slump-
They released two records- Star- (the holy grail) and King (the OTHER one)
Tanya Donelly semi-retired and had a couple of kids and still tours from time to time. And also released a few solo records.
Occasionally, I’ll pop onto her site to see if there are any tourdates- mostly because I’d love to present her here in Harrisburg- but also because I’m a fan.
Today, I found a GEM for fans of Belly- actually, it’s more like ten gems- the entire demo for the Star record- for download. For free.
Even today, some fifteen-odd years later- her voice just does it for me.
