A Throwback Bit Of Nostalgia (Belly Fans)

June 26th, 2007 Jersey

Hanging with Josh and Manda Acorns last night, we started talking about some of our favorite records and bands that we fall back on- you know- the record or band that you can listen to at almost ANY time- and it sends you back to the comforting land of tomato soup and grilled cheese-

Belly was one of my favorite bands of the nineties- my friends and I saw many a NYC show of this post-Throwing Muses/Breeders project that was doomed by the sophomore slump-

They released two records- Star- (the holy grail) and King (the OTHER one)

Tanya Donelly semi-retired and had a couple of kids and still tours from time to time. And also released a few solo records.

Occasionally, I’ll pop onto her site to see if there are any tourdates- mostly because I’d love to present her here in Harrisburg- but also because I’m a fan.

Today, I found a GEM for fans of Belly- actually, it’s more like ten gems- the entire demo for the Star record- for download. For free.

Even today, some fifteen-odd years later- her voice just does it for me.

Here’s a demo of Slow Dog: Slow Dog- (notice in this version, “Maria” is actually “Mariah” -

The rest of them are here
