I’m not saying I agree with what he did…

But I can understand.

I’m absolutely thrilled to read that “Dustin Weigel, 22, of New Cumberland, was acquitted of all charges in the June 25 beating death of William “B.J.” Burnham Jr., 27, of Carroll Twp., northern York County.”

Did you follow this story? Here’s my breakdown of it in case you haven’t been keeping up-

William “B.J.” Burnham Jr. was having an affair with Dustin Weigel’s wife.

Dustin walked in on “B.J.” in bed with his wife.

Dustin reacted by beating the shit out of “B.J.”.

“B.J.” subsequently died from injuries sustained during aforementioned ass-kicking.

Now my reasons for empathizing with Dustin are based on personal experience.

You see, I, too, was the victim of an adulterous marriage.

I always kinda knew that she was cheating on me, but I never had any concrete evidence.

Insecurity from down shifting my lifestyle stemmed from changing careers and moving from incredibly hip Toronto to just-add-water-Harrisburg, conceiving a child, going to Vegas to get married and settling into a plastic cut-out apartment in a village of Value City furniture, pasty white neighbors and a prime-time bedtime schedule.

I thought I was just being paranoid.

But when the shoe dropped and the truth came out, I swore that I would kill the guy.

Now, now- I’m not a violent guy. I’m more of a talker than a fighter. And about nine months of therapy followed by swallowing the red pill cured me of my rage.

And I’ve maintained a pretty peaceful existence.

Occasionally, I’ll run into the guy at the convenience store at Maclay and Second street.

He has NO clue who I am. And every time I see him, I’d like nothing more than to do some sort of bodily harm for all of the strife he caused me by destroying not only my marriage and family, but also my belief in the institution. But I personally would never do that. I’m a non-violent kind of guy.
I’m jaded.

But I digress.

Dustin Weigel is a fortunate man.

It was a hung jury.

Had he not had a sympathetic jury, he very well could have spent a good amount of time in jail.

Marriage IS NOT taken seriously in this country.

Shit, DATING is barely taken seriously in this country.

But for the ones who still believe in it- they totally believe in it.

And no man has the right to take that belief away from another man.

I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD FEEL SYMPATHETIC TO A COLD HEARTED MURDERER!!!! HE TOOK A MANS LIFE, TOOK HIM AWAY FROM HIS FAMILY, HIS CHILDREN!!!! JUSTICE WAS NOT SERVED TODAY!!!! DUSTIN DESERVES TO ROT IN JAIL!

    He crossed “The Line”.

I’ve got ZERO sympathy for adultery.

Hello, can-of-worms…how does it feel to be opened?

I sincerely hope you are confusing ‘empathy’ with ‘sympathy,’ in your story…

While you may empathize with the “victim of an adulterous marriage”, it is much a much different scenario when LIFE IS TAKEN. When you see up close how the deep sorrow and permanent loss affects the victim’s children, family and friends, it is immensely frustrating to know justice will likely never be served for this murder. Will the investigation continue to find the “real killer?” Think about that.

And the worst part is all these self-righteous keyboard warriors making their smug moral judgments from a distance. Certainly nobody condones the adultery, selfishness and poor judgment leading up to the tragedy… that was wrong and some degree of punishment was deserved — but should not have been DEATH.

Anyway, I really hope you’re not living vicariously through this fatal “ass-kicking” — if you are, then that’s a pretty sick take, especially when you weigh the sanctity of life and the eternal consequences of taking it away.

    Peace.

Didn’t you want to kill your ex-wife, too? Isn’t she just as guilty? If we follow along with this circle-of-hate Hammurabi-style, then it’s okay for someone to take a baseball bat to Dustin too, right?

    “-C. Rock”

I hope you die in a fire you asshole. Dustin is a piece of shit. If anyone knew him they know he did it.

  6. Jeff says:

Would your thoughts on this change had Dustin had an affair prior to this as well?

  7. jerseym says:

A court of law- with him being judged by his peers- acquitted this man of any wrongdoing.

Who do you all disagree with?

    Me?

Or the legal system of the U S of A?

You make me absolutely sick. I have a close connection to this deal. I know a lot more about it then you do. Dustin deserves to rot. i don’t care if his wife was sleeping around on him. that does not make murder right. Hell she had a long histroy of it. Her cousin stated when she was being examed during the trial, that Diana did cheated jsut to push his buttons. She is as much to blame as Dustin. They both need to rot. The jury completely overlooked the evidence and made a mocery of what should have been a slam dunk case. Now there is a murderer walking the streets cause of this. This kid is a ticking time bomb. He did it once and he is capable of doing it again.

You sicken me that you are basing this souly from your past experience. I will admit and agree that your feelings for wanting to physically harm the other guy in your case is a natural feeling, but I am assuming you are intellegent enough to know that killing that guy was not the way to handle it. Dustin lacked that thinking and hence he got in the hot water he was in. And because of that there are 2 kids out there that will never see their dad again. 2 kids that will grow up with a huge void in their lives. I have personally seen Bill interacti with his kids.. He was great with them. You could tell that he enjoyed them and they enjoyed him. They had a blast together. that all ended cause of some asshole that felt he had to commit murder cause his no good cheating wife was just doing what she did best. He knew she did it and he should have just kicked her to the curb and started over.
